Dream Interpretation – Art by Simon Fielder

Simon Fielder is a digital artist who’s work I have been following on social media for some time. Fielder is  from Cumbria, England. He paints his digital paintings using his just his fingers on his iPad. He has done many brilliant pieces of work that I have appreciated over the time that I have known of his work.

I asked his permission to do this post in dedication to his brilliant work as I attempt to interpret his most recent piece that is based on his dream:

The above image was posted to his Facebook Page on the 27th February 2018 and I was amazed by it. It must take incredible amounts of skill to draw like this on an iPad. I, for one, can barely draw with a pencil. Anyway, I have decided to interpret the dream in the form of a short story piece, so, here it goes:

I was stood on a darkened train carriage on the tracks to no where. The night was so cold that my pyjamas didn’t shield my delicate skin from it’s piercing grip. I had no idea how I got there but I knew I needed to get off. I could hardly see a hand in front of my face, how was I meant to know where I was going?  The tracks seemed to go on forever as the clickity-clack of the wheels rang in my ears like bells. I was alone there, eaten by the shadows with no one to hear me yell for help.

That was until a warm glow stroked the back of my neck. I slowly turned to see a flame a few carriages away. Was the train on fire? If it was, I had to be the one brave enough to put it out or the only way I would get off this train was in the form of ashes.

I ran towards it, faster than I thought I could. It was almost as if I blinked and ended up there. It was a controlled flame, in a metal cylinder. The air around me filled with a swarm of moths that were drawn to it’s heat but…. they weren’t fluttering. They just sort-of hovered there in the glory of the flame.

A man stood, hunched over the flame as though he were desperate to keep warm. His clothes were ragged and he looked like he hadn’t bathed in a long time.

“You been on here long?” he grumbled under his breath, without even looking up at me.

“N-n-no,” I replied, nervously, “How did we get here? How do we get off?”

He snorted out a laugh, “We don’t.”

“WHAT?!” I yelled, before he hushed me.

“Come, keep warm,” he said, gesturing with his hand for me to get closer.

I didn’t really want to be closer to a creepy stranger on an unknown train that will apparently never stop but at the same time, the flame was so inviting. I needed the heat. I took a step forward. As I did, one of my shoulders brushed against a moth but it broke a part into ashes and floated like snowflakes to the floor. They were dead. Dead moths held around this man by strings. It sent a shiver down running down my spine like the scratch of a sharp finger nail. Just keep moving forward. Just keep moving.

“We never know why we come here but we never get to leave,” the old man whimpered, as I watched a tear glisten in the flame. He quickly wiped it away before it reached his mangled, unwashed beard, “The only way we leave is the same way that moth just did… when we turn to DUST.”

I hope you enjoyed my interpretation but, I would love to hear yours so drop me a comment (might do another post featuring the best responses – including links to your blogs!)

Art For New World – Rahel Takle Peirce

In this scary world of Donald Trump and Theresa May, with their fear-mongering antics when it comes to immagration, it’s becoming far too easy to ignore the beauty of diversity and just how talented people from all over the world can be.

Art is something that can take many forms and it varies all across the world.

Rahel Takle Peirce is an award-winning artist based in London. Her art is seen to therapeutic to it’s viewers a it has been said that her work appears to have a “calming and relaxing effect.”

She immigrated from Ethiopia and has spent over 20 years developing her artistic style, using it as a way of surviving in what she describes as her “new world.”

“Every individual geometric design captures the colour, vibrancy and emotion of the moment. Each meticulously hand drawn over days or years.

The artist in her will never leave.” – Ramech Wall Deco

It is truly inspirational that this woman has come so far, turning her passion into a career in attempted to escape troubled lands.

Her art is truly unique and is a worthy example of the benefits that immigration can have on this country. It also shows her to be a great role model as a survivor, rather than becoming a victim of her past.

Most recently her work has been exhibited in Luxury Made, Olympia, London, back in September 2016 where she showcased the majority of her work.

She sells her unique designs online at Ramech Wall Deco and her work has been exhibited in many places such as:

  • The Kowalsky Gallery, London, August 2007

  • Solo Exhibition at Stoke Place Hotel, Buckinghamshire, November 2009

  • Artrom Gallery, Mandala, Unity In Diversity, Rome, Italy, January 2010

  • Ramech-Art article at Tadias Magazine

5 Ways I Relate To Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn aka. Doctor Harleen Quinnzel… Let’s be honest here she is the prettiest and most lovable female psychopath on screen, in animations and comics… but for some reason, I can relate to her character quite a lot.

5: She Knows She Annoys People

Harley is very self-aware of how annoying she can be and knows that it just might get her hurt or even killed. Let’s face it, in the real world, you are often told not to open your mouth to the wrong person because it will get you hurt and I am always self-conscious about annoying people. So much so, that I now warn people that I will annoy them eventually.

4: Her Cringe-Worthy Pick-Up Lines to Her Beloved Mr. J

We are all known for making cringy puns and pick up lines when all up in some boy or girls DMs, well Harley becomes queen of them all as she tries to bed her pudding in Batman: The Animated Series.

Let’s be honest, I can’t be the only one who relates to this way of flirting, right?

3: She Had High Aspirations In Life

Let’s not forget that before she became the infamous Harley Quinn she was Doctor Harleen Quinzel of Arkham Asylum in Gotham. Being a doctor takes a lot of hard work and dedication, especially to work in a psychiatric hospital filled with the world’s craziest criminals, am I right?

tumblr_n8mn36wceo1trgysao1_500

It is a shame that she gave it all up for Mr. J, but the wrong kind of relationship such as the domestic abuse she receives from her “pudding”  can ruin all aspects of your life.

2: She Wears A Smile For Her Man

In a violent relationship, you do anything to keep the abuser happy…

tumblr_o23lokdptu1r72sqpo1_250

Her referral to him as her “boss” rather than her partner, shows her position in Mr. J’s life as not only does he think her inferior but she thinks that of herself too. She’ll do anything to keep him happy, which seems to include smiling on demand.

1: She is a Domestic Abuse Survivor

OHHHHH, here’s the part everyone who idolizes her  9because of Suicide Squad) forgets about…Harley and Joker aren’t “goals”.

She’s a victim, or more was, she seems to have become more of a survivor now.

Sure, she doesn’t handle it as well as real abuse victims would… becoming a serial killer and all that but she survives and she’s definitely a stronger woman from embracing the effects the abuse have had on her mind. She’s fierce!
