Volunteering at SIFA Fireside


This week me and 3 others from uni did our first shift volunteering at our local homeless soup kitchen and charity, SIFA Fireside. Honestly, what an amazing place!

I think most people have misconceptions about homeless centres and homeless people in general. No it didn’t smell, no there wasn’t any fights or trouble. It had such a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walked in and really was a community in it’s self. We did both the breakfast and lunch shift, we arrived just before 08:30 am and left at 1:20 pm. We all felt so tired once we left but we also had the most rewarding feeling by doing it.

We were given different areas to manage throughout our shift. There were 2 girls in the kitchen, preparing food and serving it to the clients. There was Rosie on reception and I was on the service desk. My job…
